OK, it is only a thin brochure with 25 pictures, but they are phat!!!
FURNITURE BONDAGE has affected me intuitively and very directly. It is impossible, and the artist describes that in her wonderful accompanying text, to create a perfect harmony with the objects that surround us. This is valid in our world all the more, because by far not all objects, which we own, are required to handle everyday life and thereby would have a stable, plausible place in our system.
These actually redundant things can begin an independent existence, make the owner their slave. They are wrapped and unwrapped, are transported from here to there and prove themselves to be decontaminate-resistant, even when they don’t serve a purpose. Everyone knows that, so nothing new.
But the pictures, which Melanie Bonajo has created, are so hilarious, absurd, insane that at least I willingly occupy myself with this theme ANEW.
Melanie Bonajo, born in the Netherlands in 1978, has been totally unfamiliar to me so far. But the volume I HAVE A ROOM WITH EVERYTHING published by CAPRICIOUS shows that the artist can already demonstrate a row of exciting works. This monograph, which you can also order from us, is also very recommendable.
