PIETRO MATTIOLI /// TWO THOUSAND LIGHT YEARS FROM HOME         de | en

Crazy story. In the mid-70s Pietro Mattioli has photographed the Swiss punk scene. Always on the move in bars and clubs he captured musicians, artists and party-goers right in front of a white wall and photographed them with hard flashlight. Very straightforward and very effective.

Now he was back on the road. But the radius was tight, given the range of his baby monitor. At night, when the little boy was asleep, he left his house to stroll through his neighbourhood. Two thousand light years from home.

There is hardly light in his quiet quarter, but Mattioli brought his flash back there. With him he isolates things from the night-black environment and transforms fences, trees, poles, walls and the like into actually strange objects, which shine out unexpectedly from the depths of space.

With its peculiar binding the book also offers a special tactile experience and Urs Stahel prtovides ten flashes of thought and an epilogue.
